Eni well finds gas, condensate off Vietnam

Eni Vietnam has encountered natural gas and condensate in exploration well Ken Bau 1X in the Song Hong basin offshore Vietnam.

Drilled to 3,606 metres TD, the well encountered several gas and condensate-bearing sandstone intervals interbedded with Miocene shale. Estimated net reservoir thickness is more than 100 metres.

Eni plugged the well due to technical problems above deeper prospective levels. It plans further drilling next year.

Eni Vietnam operates 5,900-square kilometre Block 114 with a 50% interest, which it acquired from Essar E&P in 2012. Essar retains 50%.
