UK Broker Capsicum Re Appoints Williams as Cyber Security Specialist

Capsicum Re, the London-based specialist reinsurance broker, announced the appointment of Conrad Williams as the latest addition to its cyber team. He will report to Ian Newman and Samantha Thompson, partners in Capsicum Re’s London property and specialty division, and begins his new role with immediate effect.

 

Mr Williams brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role, having completed this year a four-year doctorate in Cyber Security at the Centre for Doctoral Training on Cyber Security, Royal Holloway University of London.

 

Lockton poaches Willis P&C co-head to lead global marine business

Lockton International has hired Alistair Rivers as global head of marine and transportation.

 

Mr Rivers was previously chief executive of Willis’ marine operations, before also being made responsible for the firm’s energy business in 2008. He then became co-head of global specialties London and head of global natural resources at Willis. More recently, he was elevated to co-head of global property & casualty for the group, which included leadership of the P&C UK business.

 

Mr Rivers will head up a newly developed marine and transportation business group, according to the statement. This included the hiring of five new team members all from companies with a major marine presence, and the acquisition of PL Ferrari and minority stakes in LCH (Singapore) and Integra (Turkey).

 

Mr Rivers will oversee the continuing expansion of the specialist marine team globally.

 

XL Catlin hires ocean marine insurance experts from CNA and Allianz

XL Catlin has expanded its marine team with the addition of Stephen Clark as vice president, national hull and liabilities practice leader in Chicago, and Alison Rizzi as senior ocean marine underwriter in New York.

 

In his new role with XL Catlin, Mr Clark will address marine businesses’ hull and liability insurance needs. Most recently, he served as vice president of ocean marine business at CNA.

 

Ms Rizzi returns to XL Catlin from Allianz where she managed a book of complex marine risks. She first joined XL in 2005 as an underwriter in its marine and offshore energy business.

 

Neon hires Talbot and Brit underwriters for marine expansion

Specialist Lloyd’s insurer Neon has appointed Brian James as class underwriter for cargo, and Richard Mander as class underwriter for marine liability.

 

Mr James most recently served as class underwriter at Talbot Underwriting, where he was responsible for leading the cargo/war on land and agency business lines. Prior to this, he spent over a decade at Wellington Underwriting, establishing both Wellington Syndicate Services and Wellington Genoa following acquisition by Catlin.

 

He began his career at Black Sea and Baltic General Insurance, specialising in Russian and international cargo accounts.

 

Mr Mander joins Neon from Brit Insurance, where he was class underwriter for marine and energy liability. He was previously with Navigators Underwriting Agency where he was assistant liability and energy underwriter from 1997 until joining Brit in 2004.

 

The new hires will further support the build out of Neon’s Marine team, as the company looks to expand its offering in the sector.

 

Antares taps marine cargo underwriter from Sompo Canopius

Antares, the Lloyd’s managing agent and part of the QIC Group, has appointed Joe Mellen as marine cargo underwriter.

 

Mr Mellen joins Antares from Sompo Canopius, where he served for 12 years as cargo underwriter. He began his insurance career with Langtons Managing Agency in 1982, before holding a series of underwriting roles at Kellett Group, Archer Group and Trenwick.

 

He underwrites a broad spectrum of cargo risks, from multinational businesses through to small firms, across a range of territories and through both open market placement, coverholders and MGAs.

 

Mr Mellen will report to Henry Maughan, class underwriter marine cargo.

 

Lloyd’s names Scor cat modeller as risk aggregation chief

Lloyd’s has named Dr Kirsten Mitchell-Wallace as its new Head of Risk Aggregation, reporting to Jon Hancock, Director of Performance Management.

 

Dr Mitchell-Wallace will join Lloyd’s from global insurer and reinsurer SCOR, where she is currently EMEA Regional Head for Catastrophe Management, based in Zurich. Prior to SCOR, she worked at insurance and reinsurance brokerage Willis, and has also worked for catastrophe risk modeller, RMS, as a Senior Hazard Analyst.

 

Dr Mitchell-Wallace also co-authored “Natural Catastrophe Risk Management and Modelling – A Practitioner’s Guide.”

 

She is expected to take up the new position at Lloyd’s before the end of 2017.

 

Hiscox appoints special advisor on cyber security

Specialist insurer Hiscox UK and Ireland has appointed Robert Hannigan, a former director of intelligence and security agency GCHQ, as special advisor on cyber security.

 

Mr Hannigan, credited with developing the UK’s first cyber security strategy and setting up the National Cyber Security Centre, will work closely with Hiscox and its specialist cyber division to provide market intelligence, staff training and inform the development of new and existing cyber products.

 

His new role will include advising the UK business on emerging threats and cutting-edge criminal techniques which could impact customers both now and in the future, as well as helping to educate staff and customers about the importance of managing cyber risk
