N-KOM delivers North Field expansion quarters platform

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) has completed fabrication of the new living quarters platform for Qatargas’ North Field expansion project offshore Qatar.

This was the first major offshore quarters structure constructed entirely in Qatar, in accordance with Qatargas’ commitment to Qatar Petroleum’s Tawteen the supply chain localization program.

The company had awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the project to Rosetti Marino, which performed engineering designs in Italy. All fabrication work followed at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard at Ras Laffan Port.

According to Qatargas, the new platform will accommodate a further 90 staff at NFB Offshore.

It comprises a four-legged jacket and piles weighing around 2,200 metric tons (2,425 tons) supporting a 2,800-metric ton (3,086-ton) topsides featuring five decks, a helideck, and six bridge links to existing living quarters, services and utilities.

Later this month Heerema Marine Contractors’ Aegir vessel will transport the platform and install it at the offshore location.

The original NFB accommodation, installed in 1995, was designed for the operational needs of Qatargas Trains 1 and 2.

Qatargas plans further brownfield modifications on the existing living quarters and platform to properly integrate the new accommodation structure.

Late last year Rosetti Marino formed a new company in Abu Dhabi with Ali & Sons Marine Engineering Factory, a locally-based group which provides ship building and ship repair, rigs/jack-up repair and upgrades, marine maintenance and structural steel fabrication.

Rosetti-Ali & Sons LLC will target offshore and onshore oil and gas EPC projects.
