Norwegian firms signs US$3 billion deal with Iran for solar panels

Norwegian solar panel maker Saga Energy has signed a deal worth €2.5 billion (US$2.9 billion) with Iran’s state-owned company Amin Energy Developers to build solar power plants.

Gaute Steinkopf, a consultant who assisted Saga Energy in reaching the deal, says it was signed on the 17th October at the Tehran residence of Norway’s Ambassador to Iran, Lars Nordrum.

The deal comes just a week after President Trump refused to re-certify a global nuclear deal with Iran.

Mr Steinkopf said on the 18th October that Iran wants to increase production of renewable energy, adding it took seven months to get the deal negotiated. Norwegian news agency NTB said it would take up to five years to build the two gigawatt plant.
