Resan licence partners start appraisal well programme

Partners in the Resan licence, south-west Turkey, have started construction of the Basur-3 appraisal well drilling pad and access road.

This is the beginning of a five-well oil appraisal and step-out exploration programme.

Basur-3, the first modern appraisal well designed to confirm extent and commerciality of Basur-Resan Mardin oil pool, lies about 1.2 km north and geologically updip from the 1964 Basur-1 oil discovery well, which produced 500 bbl oil from a six-hour swab test.

Basur-3 will test the north-western structural culmination of the 45 sq km Basur-Resan geological structure within the 305 sq km licence.

Basur-Resan’s Mardin oil pool is estimated to contain 37.2 million bbl aggregate gross mean and 67 million bbl high case discovered recoverable resources.

Construction is scheduled to last about 60 days.

Aladdin Middle East is operator at Resan (50%) with partner UK Oil & Gas PLC (50%).
