Second North Field LQ platform ready for service

Qatargas has completed its offshore North Field Bravo (NFB) living quarters expansion project.

This involved construction and installation of a new five-deck, 90-person accommodation platform supported by a four-legged jacket and piles – total weight around 5,000 metric tons (5,511 tons) – with a helideck and six bridge links to the existing living quarters.

At peak the programme, including modification activities, employed 900 people.

The new platform was fabricated locally at Qatar’s Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard (NKOM). Other companies participating in the project included Rosetti Marino (EPIC contractor) and Heerema Marine (transportation and installation contractor).

The original NFB accommodation facility, installed in 1995, was designed to serve the needs of Qatargas LNG Trains 1 and 2, but operational requirements have changed following various expansion projects since.
