Test production stabilising at Lancaster west of Shetland

Hurricane Energy has issued an update on the early production system at the basement Lancaster oil field west of Shetland.

One of the two wells, 205/21a-6, has been producing on its own since the 17th May at around 10,300 b/d with a stable water cut.

On the 5th June the choke size was increased, raising production to 12,000 b/d.

Further incremental rises in production could follow depending on observed performance, as Hurricane seeks to determine the well’s optimal sustainable rate.

The company had been targeting a plateau rate of 18,000 b/d net from the existing two well configuration on natural flow, but interference between the two wells led to 205/21a-7Z being shut in temporarily last month.

Hurricane added that its focus going forward will include the possibility of a shallower oil water contact.

Dr Robert Trice has resigned as CEO, but will remain available to assist the company over a six-month transition period. Beverley Smith, formerly with BG Group, has been appointed as his interim replacement.
