Total contracts Maersk rigs for offshore Suriname drilling

Total has issued a conditional letter of award to Maersk Drilling for two deep-water rigs for exploration and appraisal in block 58 offshore Suriname.

The campaign is set to start early next year, with an estimated firm duration (for the two rigs combined) of 500 days and a total contract value of around US$100 million.

This includes rig upgrades and provision of integrated services.

The Mærsk Developer, one of the nominated rigs, is a DSS-21 column-stabilised DP semi-submersible, currently operating offshore Suriname.

The other, Mærsk Valiant is a seventh generation drillship with integrated MPD capability, currently warm-stacked nearby in Aruba after finishing a campaign in Mexico earlier this year.
