Vessel undergoes conversion for offshore wind farm installations
Drydocks World has cut first steel for a conversion project for Boskalis.
The shipyard will convert an existing ship to a vessel designed for wind farm installations offshore Taiwan, and re-named BOKALIFT 2.
It will be capable of conducting offshore operations ranging from the transport and installation of wind turbine foundations to installation and decommissioning of offshore platforms.
The conversion scope includes the fabrication and installation of 9,000 tons of steel blocks on both sides of the vessel to increase its stability, and the installation of a new work deck and of a 4,000-ton revolving crane in 2021, capable of lifting structures more than 100 metres (328 feet) high.
BoWei Offshore, a joint venture between Boskalis and Hwa Chi construction, will operate the vessel with the first assignment at the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farm project in Taiwan, owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and two Taiwanese life insurance companies.
The project includes transportation and installation of 62 three-legged jacket foundations and 186 pin piles.
