YPF loads first commercial LNG cargo for export from FLNG facility

According to Reuters on the 8th November, trade sources have reported that Argentina’s YPF SA has loaded its first commercial LNG cargo for export from a new floating LNG (FLNG) unit located off Bahia Blanca.

This follows the news in June this year, when the company successfully exported its first test LNG cargo.

Reuters reports that the state-owned firm issued the tender (which closed on the 6th November) to sell 2.1 trillion Btu of LNG for loading from the FLNG Tango unit.

According to Reuters, the cargo loaded from the facility on the 26th October on the Excalibur LNG tanker, and is now moored off Bahia Blanca. Details of the buyer are not currently available.

One trader reportedly said: “It takes around 40 days to produce and load a full cargo…their next one will be on the vessel Methane Kari Elin.

“The first commercial cargo will likely end up in Europe or Americas as they don’t have the shipping length.”
