Aker BP contracts rig for two wells in Ivar Aasen field

Aker BP ASA has let a contract to Maersk Drilling for use of the Maersk Integrator drilling rig for two wells in Ivar Aasen field in the northern part of the North Sea, about 175 km west of Karmoy in 110 metres water depth.

Drilling is expected to begin in third-quarter 2021.

The contract has an estimated duration of 73 days and a contract value of about US$19.5 million, excluding integrated services provided and potential performance bonuses.

The ultra-harsh environment CJ70 XLE jack-up rig is currently completing a series of upgrades to turn it into a hybrid, low-emission rig. The upgrades are supported by a grant from the Norwegian NOx Fund and a separate compensation scheme agreed with Aker BP rewarding reductions in fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

Ivar Aasen development compromises PL 001B, 028B, 242, 338, and 547.

Aker BP is operator (34.78%) with partners Equinor ASA (41.47%), Spirit Energy (12.32%), Wintershall DEA (6.46%), Neptune Energy (3.02%), Lundin (1.38%) and OKEA (0.55%).
