Angola’s new oil and gas regulator ANPG starts work

Angola’s new oil and gas regulatory body officially started work last week from an office in central Luanda.

The National Agency for Oil & Gas was created in early February to take over the concessionaire activities which were previously handled by state-owned Sonangol, leaving the latter to focus on its upstream activities.

Headed by Paulino Geronimo, ANPG is based in Edificio Metropolis, which is next door to the offices of Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.

The agency’s efforts will focus on encouraging exploration dollars to the country based on a six-year licensing plan, with a mix of fully competitive and limited tender models as well as direct negotiations.
