Bridon-Bekaert ropes to moor Hywind Tampen floating turbines

Aker Solutions (Kvaerner) has contracted Bridon-Bekaert Ropes Group (BBRG) to supply long-term mooring lines for Equinor’s Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind project in the Norwegian North Sea.

The company will supply 35 long-term mooring lines for 11 floating offshore wind turbines including spares.

BBRG will provide its SPR2+ product in lengths of 147 m (482 ft) of sheathed spiral strand, complete with high strength easy to connect sockets on custom designed offshore installation reels.

Hywind Tampen is an 88-MW floating wind power project intended to provide electricity for the Snorre and Gullfaks field operations in the Norwegian North Sea. It will be the world’s first floating wind farm to power offshore oil and gas platforms and the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm.

The project will also be the first floating wind array using steel spiral strand as mooring lines.
