CGG data supports gas potential at Judith offshore Australia

Emperor Energy has completed an agreement with CGG to purchase a licence for new 3D seismic data in the Gippsland basin offshore southeast Australia.

This covers the Judith gas field and the Greater Judith Structure: CGG acquired the data last year as part of a multi-client 3D survey over the basin, using 7,000-m (22,966-ft) long acquisition cables for higher-quality reservoir resolution.

Emperor has received preliminary processed results, which include a MAZ merge with CGG’s previous legacy-reprocessed data. Final results should come through later this year.

Initial analysis suggests improved seismic data quality providing higher definition over Judith and much of Greater Judith.

Seismic sections across Judith indicate well-developed high amplitude/low impedance responses in sections correlating with the Judith gas sands intersected in the Judith-1 well drilled by Shell in 1989, and in the interpreted underlying Longtom reservoirs.

In addition, high amplitude responses indicate potential for gas in interpreted Kipper gas sands extending from the producing Kipper gas field, operated by ExxonMobil, into the south-eastern corner of the Vic/P47 licence.

Emperor has completed a pre-feasibility study for a project based on four production wells delivering 80 MMcf/d over 25 years and plans to use the new data to refine the well locations and the gas deliverability.
