Gas injection under way through TurkStream pipelines
Gazprom has started filling the first of the two new TurkStream offshore pipelines in the Black Sea with gas.
This represents the final step in the commissioning process. First commercial supplies through the system are due to begin by year-end.
The twin pipelines will eventually deliver gas to Turkey and countries in south-east Europe.
Injection of the gas via the Gazprom unified gas supply system started in mid-October, with the required pressure generated by the Russkaya compressor station located near Anapa on the Russian Black Sea coast.
The first pipeline was due to be filled with gas from the Anapa landfall facility to the reception terminal near Kıyıköy on the Turkish Black Sea coast.
DNV GL has confirmed that the integrity and properties of the two 32-inch pipelines comply with the technical requirements for Submarine Pipeline Systems of DNV GL and other relevant international standards.
Filling the second pipeline with gas was due to start after operations had been completed on the first pipeline.
Construction at the reception terminal is nearing completion. In parallel, BOTAŞ is working on completing the first onshore pipeline to connect TurkStream to the Turkish gas network, while a Gazprom-BOTAŞ partnership is developing the second onshore line to transport gas to Turkey’s borders with Europe.
