Lundin drills Hurri prospect in Barents Sea oil fairway

The semi-submersible Leiv Eiriksson has spudded Lundin Norway’s latest exploration well in the southern Barents Sea.

Well 7219/12-3 is targeting the Hurri prospect in licence PL53, two kilometres (1.2 miles) south-west of Lundin’s Filicudi oil discovery and south of the Statoil-operated Johan Castberg oil development.

The main aims will be to test reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential in the Jurassic Hekkingen and Stø formations. Hurri could hold 218 MMboe.

Drilling should last around 50 days. The other partners are Aker BP and DEA Norge.
