Neptune contracts Borr rig for North Sea wells

Neptune Energy has awarded Borr Drilling a US$21.4-million contract in the North Sea.

Borr will provide its new jack-up Prospector-1 for the campaign, which covers development drilling, exploration, and P&A in the Dutch and UK sectors.

The rig employs a Selective Catalytic Reduction system and other technologies said to reduce emissions of nitrogen and carbon emissions from its operations by up to 95%.

Neptune said the scope of the award was in line with its commitment to working with supply chain partners to maximise efficiency and lower operational emissions across its offshore portfolio.

Brett McIntyre, global head of Drilling & Wells, Brett McIntyre, said: “Previous drilling contracts have traditionally been awarded at a country level, but by consolidating these workscopes we have adopted a more collaborative and efficient approach with Borr Drilling.”

The contract includes an option for a further three wells after the rig has completed the initial seven-month drilling campaign.

In addition, Borr has secured a three-wells plus option contract for the Prospector 1 from Tulip for operations in the Dutch North Sea.

PTTEP has awarded another Borr jack-up, Gunnlod, a contract extension which provides for eight additional wells in Malaysia, which should keep the rig operating through September 2021.

Borr has also received a letter of intent from an unnamed new operator for the Natt rig in Nigeria to begin operations in April 2021. The estimated duration of 150 days will be in direct continuation of the rig’s previous contract.
