OIL reports two Upper Assam basin strikes

State-owned Oil India Ltd has reported two discoveries in India’s Upper Assam basin, one of them the first commercial oil find in the Eocene Narpuh formation.

OIL 2 Hukanguri produced 55 cu m/day of oil from 18 m of Narpuh sand and is under extended production testing.

The other well, OIL 5 South Chandmari, encountered multiple Narpuh and Eocene Lakadong + Therria (LK+TH) sands. The well produced 50,000 standard cu m/day of natural gas from 10 m of LK+TH at a depth of 4,290 metres.

Both wells are on the Dumduma Petroleum Mining Licence.
