PSA approves North Sea Sverdrup oil preparations

Equinor has approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to begin using the oil export facility at the Johan Sverdrup field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

Production from the four-platform, first-phase development is due to start later this year.

In addition, the PSA has authorised the company to drill an exploration well on the Sigrun East prospect in licences PL025 and 187, 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) south-east of the Gudrun field in 109 metres (357 feet) water depth.

The semi-sub West Phoenix is scheduled to begin the 53-day campaign in October.

Finally, the PSA has approved PGNiG Upstream Norway’s planned exploration well 6507/5-9 S on the Shrek prospect in 358 metres (1,174 feet) of water in PL838.

The location is nine kilometres (5.6 miles) south of the Aker BP-operated Skarv field and 24 kilometres (14.9 miles) north-east of Heidrun.

The semi-sub Deepsea Nordkapp is due to spud the well this weekend.
