Yme nearing start-up offshore Norway

Repsol Norge has authorisation from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to start up the Yme oil field in the southeastern Norwegian North Sea.

Production is expected to start later this year.

According to the NPD, Yme is one of the first oil fields on the Norwegian shelf to be redeveloped after it was shut down in 2001. Continued operation was not considered profitable then.

Yme was originally developed with a jack-up production facility and a storage ship for the sole structure, Gamma.

A new plan for development and operation (PDO) for Yme was approved in 2007, but the project was not implemented.

A revised PDO, approved in March 2018, involves a combination of existing and new installations and wells. Total investments are estimated at NOK12 billion (US$1.4 billion).

The new facilities include the jack-up drilling and production facility Mærsk Inspirer and a wellhead module placed on the existing caisson. A new permanent support structure for the caisson has also been installed, as well as a new subsea template.

The recoverable reserves in Yme are estimated at about 63 MMbbl of oil.

Repsol Norge operates the Yme field with a 55% interest, in partnership with Lotos Exploration and Production Norge AS (20%), KUFPEC Norway (10%), and OKEA (15%).
