Aker BP granted consent for Valhall West Flank platform start-up

Aker BP has been given consent to start up the Valhall West Flank platform in the North Sea offshore Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said on the 2^nd October that the start-up of the Valhall West Flank facility in the North Sea would take place “this autumn,” without providing a specific date.

The Valhall Flank West topsides were installed on the Aker BP-operated Valhall field on the 22^nd June 2019.

This platform start-up will mark a further development of the Valhall field. West Flank is an unmanned platform with twelve well slots, and it is tied to the Valhall field centre.

Valhall is located in the southern part of the Norwegian shelf, 290 kilometres from land.

The reserves are estimated at 9.6 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalents (approximately 60 million barrels). The reserve estimate is a median value and indicates some uncertainty regarding how much can be recovered.

The investment estimate when the Plan for Development and Operation was submitted was 5.4 billion 2018-NOK.

“Valhall West Flank is an important measure for further exploitation of the resources in a mature field,” said Tove Francke, the NPD’s Assistant director for development and operations, North Sea South.

Aker BP is the operator of the Valhall Flank Vest with Pandion as a partner.

The platform is the first to be delivered under the wellhead platform alliance between Aker BP, Aker Solutions, Kværner and ABB.
