Aker BP set to downgrade North Sea Liatårnet resource

Aker BP expects to lower oil estimates for its Miocene Liatårnet discovery in the Norwegian North Sea, following appraisal drilling.

Liatårnet, proven in 2019, was considered as a potential resource for the multi-field North of Alvheim Krafla Area (NOAKA) development, although not included in the NOAKA resource base.

Prior to drilling, Aker BP had estimated recoverable oil in the range 13-32 MMcm.

The semi-submersible Deepsea Nordkapp drilled appraisal well 25/2-22S in 111 metres (364 feet) of water in licence 442, 40 km (25 miles) north-east of the Alvheim field.

The well encountered lower volumes of hydrocarbons than expected in the Skkade formation.

The Deepsea Nordkapp has P&A’d the well and is now heading to the Alvheim area to drill a development well in PL150 for Aker BP.
