Borssele III & IV turbines installed offshore the Netherlands

Van Oord’s jack-up vessel Aeolus has installed all 77 MHI Vestas V164-9.5-MW turbines at Blauwwind’s Borssele III & IV offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

As the Balance of Plant contractor, Van Oord was responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the foundations and inter array cables. In addition, the Aeolus transported and installed the wind turbines.

In April, the company completed the monopile installations. Its cable installation vessel Nexus and trencher Dig-It completed the installation and burial of more than 170 km (106 miles) of inter array cables.

Located 22 km (14 miles) off the coast of the province of Zeeland, the 731.5-MW Borssele III & IV wind farm is expected to provide power for about 825,000 Dutch households.

First power was delivered in August. The final set of turbines will now undergo commissioning and testing in preparation for full power generation.
