Energean lines up drillship for offshore Israel wells

Energean Oil & Gas has contracted Stena Drilling to work on the deepwater Karish gas field project offshore Israel.

The contractor will deploy the Stena Forth drillship (or an alternative rig, subject to agreement by all parties) to drill at least three development wells during the first quarter 2019.

Energean will confirm the scope following a Final Investment Decision (FID) on Karish and the Tanin gas fields, which will be developed later.

Stena Forth is a DrillMAX, DP 3 ultra-deepwater drillship which has worked in the Libyan Mediterranean sector, in the Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt, offshore Malaysia and Greenland, and in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The vessel will be mobilised from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, where it is currently located.

Karish’s wells will produce through a new-build FPSO, 90 kilometres (56 miles) offshore Israel.

Energean expects first gas in 2021.
