Eni Gains Rights in Three Blocks Offshore Mozambique

Eni subsidiary Eni Mozambico has acquired rights to explore and develop three offshore blocks in the deep waters of the Angoche and Zambezi basins, the company announced on the 29th May.

Through a farm-in agreement with ExxonMobil Mocambique Exploration & Production Limitada, Eni will secure a ten percent stake in the three blocks: A5-B, Z5-C and Z5-D.

Block A5-B has an area of 6,080 square kilometres at a water depth of 1,800-2,500 metres and is located 1,300 kilometres north-east of Maputo in an unexplored area off the city of Angoche.

Blocks Z5-C and Z5-D cover a combined area of 10,205 square kilometres at a water depth between 500 and 2,100 metres in a scarcely explored area facing the delta of the Zambezi River, which is 800 kilometres northeast of Maputo.

The three blocks, assigned under the Fifth Licensing Round, are operated by ExxonMobil (40 percent), in partnership with the Mozambican State company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (20 percent), Rosneft (20 percent) and Qatar Petroleum (10 percent).
