Eni lines up drillship for deepwater Morocco wildcat

Eni has contracted the ultra-deepwater drillship Saipem 12000 for an exploratory well in Morocco’s Rabat Deep offshore permit.

According to partner Chariot Oil & Gas Ltd, the vessel will drill the RD-1 well, targeting the JP-1 prospect.

It should arrive on location late in the first quarter 2018 and start drilling soon thereafter.

JP-1 prospect is a large, four-way dip closed structure extending over around 200 square kilometres (77 square miles) with Jurassic carbonate primary reservoir objectives, though to hold potentially 768 MMbbl of resources.

This January Eni took charge of the licence, offering Chariot a capped carry on drilling of JP-1 and other geological and administrative costs relating to the concession.
