Mobilisation under way for Sverdrup hook-up in the North Sea

Statoil has started preparations for hook-up and completion at the Johan Sverdrup field Phase 1 complex in the Norwegian North Sea.

Around 150 people will sail soon on the floating accommodation vessel Safe Zephyrus from Mekjarvik outside Stavanger and should arrive at the field location this weekend.

On arrival, work to finalise the riser platform will begin, followed by the start of hook-up arrangements for the drilling platform topsides, due to arrive early next month.

With two platforms in place, the accommodation jack-up vessel Haven will join the Safe Zephyrus at the field to increase capacity to nearly 900 beds, allowing three shifts of up to 2,400 personnel from Statoil and its suppliers to be based at the field.

Statoil has also secured permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an appraisal well south-east of its Gudrun field in the North Sea.

The semi-submersible Deepsea Bergen will drill well 15/3-10, the eighth on production licence 025 since it was awarded in May 1969.
