Norwegian group in MoU on Iranian Caspian field studies

Norway’s Offshore Resource Group (ORG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Khazar Exploration and Production Company to study the development of the deepwater Sardar-e Jangal oil and gas field off Gilan Province in the southern Caspian Sea, according to news service Shana.

The cooperation extends to offshore exploratory blocks 24, 26, and 29.

Jostein Kaare Kjerstad, ORG’s executive director signed the agreement with KEPCO’s managing director, Mohsen Delaviz.

Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs, Amirhossein Zamaninia, expressed hope that KEPCO’s cooperation with ORG can pave the way to expand surveys over the country’s Caspian Sea oil and gas fields.

The country’s Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has also signalled Iran’s willingness to cooperate with neighbour Azerbaijan on oil exploration projects in the Caspian Sea, during recent talks with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in Tehran.

Mr Aliyev also called for closer Tehran-Baku relations.
