Oman opens oil and gas training institute

Petrofac and Takatuf Oman, owned by Oman Oil Company, have inaugurated their new institute designed to provide training for the Sultanate’s next generation of oil, gas, and energy personnel.

The Takatuf Petrofac Oman (TPO) centre in Knowledge Oasis will be the largest technical training institute in Oman, Petrofac claimed, employing the latest technologies to train up to 600 students annually.

TPO, a 60:40 joint venture between Takatuf and Petrofac, combines interactive workshops and digital classroom content with augmented reality learning and practical training in workshops, the company added, with four live process pilot plants.

Sheikh Khalid Al-Hinai, chairman of TPO, said the centre’s training environments are designed to replicate real oil and gas facilities. “This creates a risk free, immersive environment which enables students to get practical and hands-on experience of plant operations, including failures and shut-downs, that are otherwise difficult to replicate on site.”
