XL Catlin appoints global cargo leader from Brit

Re/insurer XL Catlin has appointed Andrew Coutts to the position of global practice leader for cargo.

 

Mr Coutts joins XL Catlin from Brit Global Specialty, where he worked for nearly ten years as cargo underwriter. He has more than 30 years of experience in the marine cargo insurance industry and has held several positions within industry trade bodies, including the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) and the International Underwriting Association (IUA).

 

Based in London, he will be responsible for managing a global underwriting team and the company’s cargo insurance portfolios in the London Market, providing clients and brokers globally with expert underwriting and claims service.

 

Liberty creates new London Market claims role

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has promoted Andrew Pedler to the newly created role of claims manager – client relationships.

 

Based in the company’s London headquarters, Mr Pedler will work closely with LSM’s claims and placing brokers to promote its claims service as an integral part of the business’s offering to the market. The role is a first for LSM and rare within London market businesses, the company said.

 

He will report to both head of claims Mike Gillett and head of business development Mark Stephenson.

 

Mr Pedler has been a senior claims specialist with LSM since 2012. He began his career in 2007 as an insurance technician and an associate claims adjuster with Xchanging. He is ACII qualified and a founding member of the LMA/LIIBA under-35 claims group.

 

José Manuel González to become Howden Broking Group CEO

José Manuel González will become the CEO of Howden Broking Group on the 1st October 2018 and has already taken on the deputy CEO role as part of the transition.

 

David Howden, who founded Howden Pangborne in 1994, had held this CEO title since the firm bought R K Harrison in 2015 and when Howden’s owner Hyperion restructured the group’s management in May 2016.

 

He remains with the business and keeps the CEO of Hyperion Insurance Group position which he previously had in tandem with the Howden post.
