Celebrus New Appointments to the Board of Directors

Celebrus Risk Limited announced on the 1st April that its Shareholders resolved to appoint three new Directors to the company’s Board to join existing Directors, Nick Readings and Pat Hannam. All three have now received FCA Approval for the Directorship roles.

 

The new appointees all bring their own expertise and experience to strengthen the Board and assist the company’ to achieve its first year targets. The Directors are:

 

Oleg Tronev is the majority owner of Celebrus and the driving force behind its establishment and rapid development. Oleg has twenty years’ experience at the heart of the Russian oil and gas insurance market, and has had roles as Chief Underwriter, Head of Reinsurance, Client Executive, and others.

 

For the past ten years he was the CEO of one of the leading Oil and Gas insurers in the region.  During this time Oleg has built an almost unique network of contacts in the Russian oil and gas market at all levels, and an in-depth knowledge of the insurances in the region and their reinsurance into London and international markets.

 

Oleg speaks fluent English and has relocated to the UK to help run the Celebrus office.

 

Mike Makowski’s principal roles are to coordinate Celebrus’ establishment of its own A rated capacity, and to then be Celebrus’ Chief Underwriting Officer. Mike also assists with full technical and placement support for Celebrus whilst it operates solely as an intermediary.

 

Mike has over 40 years’ experience in senior management positions in the Oil and Gas insurance sector. This includes 30 years in senior roles in leading Lloyd’s brokers including JLT, Marsh, Aon (previously Benfield Corporate Risk), HSBC Gibbs and Cooper Gay.

 

As a broker Mike worked primarily in account executive and business development roles, mostly targeting the Russian and CIS regions. He was also Chief Operating Officer at the Marsh Marine and Energy Reinsurance Division. For the past ten years Mike has underwritten similar lines of business, including ten years as Managing Director of SOVAG (UK Branch), a majority Russian-owned underwriting company in the heart of the City.

 

Mike’s roles at SOVAG included underwriting risks from oil, gas, and power/heavy industry sectors, and overall management of the branch office in London.  In this position he was responsible for business development worldwide but with particular promotion in the CIS/CEE regions.

 

Mike has joined Celebrus from Oilfield Offshore Underwriting Limited, where he has recently held the role of energy underwriter. There he was responsible for the development and underwriting of Upstream and Downstream Energy business emanating from Russia, Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic States.

 

Nick Carratu has worked in the Oil and Gas sector of the Former Soviet Union for nearly twenty-five years, of which the last twenty have been in the insurance field.

 

During this time Nick worked for leading London brokers, including Marsh Marine and Energy where he was a Senior Vice President with responsibility for the business from the Former Soviet Union.

 

Since 2006 Nick has worked primarily for regional captive insurance companies and captive management companies, and has been on the Board of various insurers and captive insurance companies. During this time Nick also worked as an advisor to Lukoil Overseas insurance department.

 

Nick is a Russian speaker.

Lloyd’s managing agent Coverys appoints head of claims from Brit

Coverys Managing Agency, the Lloyd’s managing agent of Syndicates 1975, 1991, 3330 and 1110, has appointed Caitlin Crist to the newly created role of head of claims of Coverys Syndicate 1975.

 

Ms Crist joins from Brit Global Specialty where, as a complex claims specialist, she was responsible for managing and adjusting complex casualty claims and providing US legal advice on contentious issues.

 

She will take up her new role in June.

 

Bird to land at Lloyd’s broker Prospect as chairman

Former Besso CEO Colin Bird is set to join the board at fellow Lloyd’s intermediary Prospect Insurance Brokers (PIB) as chairman.

Insurtech Concirrus has signed up Dieter Berg, former president of the International Union of Marine Insurance, as a non-executive director.
