POGC introduces well integrity software at South Pars offshore Iran

Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) has started applying a new well integrity management system (WIMS) to assist safe and stable gas production from the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.

According to news service Shana, POGC aims to lessen the risk of fluid leaks into the environment outside the wells, and entry of non-reservoir fluid into‍ wells.

This is a software application for data collection, handling and reporting of well integrity, said to provide a uniform and structured approach for describing the status and handling of well integrity issues throughout a well’s production phase.

It was developed by Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum.

Mohammad Ayuman, deputy of Technical Services of Wells in Production and Operations Management at POGC, said: “Currently, all the productive wells in the South Pars gas field and other wells in hydrocarbon fields, including Kish, Golshan and Bilal, which will be developed in the future, are covered by this system.”

WIMS represents a change of approach, he added, “from traditional wells management to codified and knowledge-based management based on the principles of managing the integrity of physical assets and engineering knowledge.”
