Romanian refinery commissions vapour recovery unit
Rompetrol Rafinare SA, a member company of KMG International Group, has completed installation of a fully automated vapour recovery unit at the auto and rail loading points of its 8,000-b/d Vega refinery in Pahova County, near Ploiesti, Romania.
The US$2.3-million investment, which aims to reduce impacts of operational activities on the environment and communities in the area, completes the general plan of actions carried out by Rompetrol Rafinare for optimisation, efficiency, and compliance of operational processes at the site, the refiner said.
The project’s fully automated equipment includes seven loading stations equipped with modern steam-loading and recovery arms, electrical equipment, as well as control, command, and surveillance equipment.
The vapour recovery plant has a design capacity of 300 cu m/hr, with maximum emissions in the atmosphere of the compounds not exceeding values imposed by regulatory authorities.
“We are investing in the implementation of the most modern and safe technologies, aimed at continuously reducing the impact that the Vega refinery has on the environment.
“The ongoing projects, together with the investments destined to streamline the production processes, will be able to ensure a positive course for Vega refinery, in the trend of the last years, in which remarkable results have been obtained”, said Yedil Utekov, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.
In 2018, the Vega refinery processed more than 8,100 b/d of raw feedstock and produced more than 84,500 tonnes/year and 43,400 tpy of hexane and solvents, respectively, Rompetrol Rafinare said.
