Shell adds four wells to Gumusut-Kakap production offshore Sabah
Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd has completed the Gumusut-Kakap Phase 2 project offshore Sabah.
This phase involved the drilling of four subsea wells tied back to the Gumusut-Kakap semi-submersible floating production system (GK-Semi FPS).
At peak production, the four wells are expected to add 50,000 boe/d to the GK-Semi FPS, sustaining its rated production capacity of 165,000 b/d.
Located in water depths of 1,200 metres (3,937 feet), the GK-Semi FPS was Shell’s first deep-water development in Malaysia. Production began in 2014.
According to Shell, the GK Phase 2 project has realised cost savings of more than 35% since taking the final investment decision in the fourth quarter of 2017. This was said to be achieved through competitive scoping and efficient project execution.
The Gumusut-Kakap project is a joint venture between Shell (29%, operator), ConocoPhillips (29%), Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (16.8%), PTTEP Sabah Oil Ltd. (6.4%), Pertamina (2.7%), and others.
