Indian oil firm makes large offshore oil discovery

India’s ONGC has reportedly made a large oil discovery near its Mumbai High offshore oil fields, off India’s west coast.

According to a widely cited report by Reuters on the 20th September, the Indian oil company’s discovery might hold in place reserves of 20 million tonnes.

The news agency cited people familiar with the matter who said that the discovery containing both oil and gas was made in July.

The sources reportedly said the discovery was a different play from that in the nearby Mumbai High fields, and that ONGC was planning to drill an appraisal well to gain a better insight into the size of the discovery.
